French Language Game: La chanson

Quick French Language Game: La chanson - Sur le pont d'Avignon

This quick game uses the dialogue of one of our French 1 Scenes.
In it, our young traveler Daniel visits the "Pont d'Avignon" and he remembers singing the well-known French song with his brother.
Few may actually know the official name of the "Pont d'Avignon": Pont Saint-Bénézet.
And some visitors may actually be disappointed.
Only four arches of the bridge, located between Villneuve-lès-Avignon and Avignon, remain and extend into the Rhone.
The bridge with its initial 22 stone arches was re-built in the 13th century.
Frequent floods of the Rhone caused serious damage and repairs were finally abandoned in the 17th century.
The chapel of Saint Nicholas sits on the second pier of the bridge.
Find out more about the Saint Bénézet legend and the history of the bridge HERE.

Perfect Provence has a short summary with some nice images of the chapel and bridge.
Here is a YouTube clip of the song with French lyrics and the English translation.
The song dates back to the 15th century. The dance actually took place under (sous) not on (sur) the bridge.
